What is a sustainable fashion brand?
Many brands mean different things when they talk about sustainability. So what actually makes a brand "sustainable"? We use the following categories:
- The brand has to produce in an environmentally friendly manner. In general, this means for example that they mainly use sustainable materials, they are conscious about water usage and management, they do not or responsibly handle toxic chemicals, they are actively reducing their carbon emissions and they are consciously packaging their products.
- The brand produces in a fair trade and ethical manner. Fair production means save and clean working conditions, fair pay, normal working hours and no child labour.
- The brand has high standards of animal welfare or produces free of animals and animal products.
- Often, sustainable brands do even more to have a positive impact on the enviroment or their local production environments by supporting good causes.
