Just as the scattering of charms in a perfectly-imperfect mishmash on my dining table led to the creation of this very necklace.

In 2016, Katie quit her job in Sydney as a women's clothing buyer for a fast fashion retailer. Here, on the frontline of fast fashion, she sat at the many negotiating tables from Shanghai to Delhi, pinching to the last cent. Always pushing for cheaper, faster, for the massive volumes that would eventually find their way to landfill, Katie eventually realized she was part of a huge problem with this. She changed course and started jewelry brand Loft & Daughter, with which Katie wants to show that you can also give back to people with a fashion company.

Ethically produced: The jewelry is fairly made in Jaipur, India. The organization is WFTO (Fair Trade) certified and provides training and employment opportunities to vulnerable or displaced artisans. All items are made by hand using slow, traditional craft techniques, not in large factories.

Eco-friendly:  Where possible, the label uses recycled silver, in addition to 22kt gold vermeil. Loft & Daughter also uses GOTS certified organic cotton with natural pigments. The workshop runs on solar energy.
