Het schubdiertje lijkt soms wel een beetje op een grote dennenappel, maar hij is een zoogdier net zoals wij. Nu ja, misschien niet helemaal zoals wij: zijn tong is langer dan zijn lichaam om vlot mieren en termieten te vangen (wel meer dan 80 per minuut!). En zijn schubbige huid is naast camouflage ook een uitstekende bescherming tegen roofdieren: hij rolt zich simpelweg op en roofdieren kunnen dan niet veel meer doen dan ernaar kijken. Het mamaschubdier neemt vaak ook nog een baby mee in haar rolletje. Jammer genoeg bieden de schubben niet altijd soelaas: deze vriendelijke rollebol is ernstig bedreigd door de jacht op zijn schubben en vlees. Hij stond even in de spotlight omdat hij werd aangeduid als bron van het coronavirus, maar het lieve diertje bleek er niets mee te maken te hebben.

Met deze fijngetaileerde halsketting zorg je ervoor dat hij niet vergeten wordt.
